With over 15 years of experience in the field of psychology, Dr. Love has provided treatment services in various settings to people of all ages. Those settings have included VA medical centers, inpatient psychiatric hospitals, community mental health, correctional mental health, outpatient substance use settings, and residential treatment settings.
Dr. Love is a native of Western North Carolina. He was born and raised in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. He also attended Appalachian State University in Boone, where he received his Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2005. His Appalachian roots and upbringing strongly inform his work. He currently lives in Kingsport, Tennessee. When he isn’t working, Dr. Love enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoys playing guitar, listening to true crime podcasts, and watching the Dallas Cowboys.
Described as centered, genuine, and empathetic, Dr. Love focuses on providing treatment to teens and adults in a therapeutic atmosphere that focuses on genuinely welcoming the client no matter what the circumstances and creating a safe space to discuss issues as they arise in session. Dr. Love believes strongly in a holistic framework to overall health and wellbeing. While much of the world is seemingly speeding up, Dr. Love has a focus on slowing down and enjoying the little things as they come our way. This mindfulness-based approach is central to overall health and wellness.
In addition, Dr. Love welcomes a discussion of spirituality and the integration of faith and psychology in session. At times, our spiritual health is negatively affected by other issues and/or problems that happen in our lives. By giving individuals an opportunity to discuss these issues openly, it gives clients the space to explore issues that may have stayed hidden otherwise.
Diagnostic clarification is also a specialty of Dr. Love. Through a detailed interview and assessment (as needed), he is able to determine the focus in terms of treatment planning while receiving therapy services. In addition, he is able to complete thorough differential diagnosis to provide real answers to issues that are complex and difficult to manage without professional
guidance/assistance.

Children, adolescents, young adults, adults, parents, and families who feel overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward are welcome. You or your loved one may be navigating anxiety, trauma, depression, behavioral concerns, family stress, or a difficult life transition. At Appalachian Integrative Psychology, I provide compassionate, trauma-informed care in a safe and nonjudgmental environment. Together, we build practical coping skills, improve emotional regulation and communication, strengthen relationships, and work toward greater stability, connection, and hope.
I use CBT and DBT-informed strategies within a holistic, trauma-informed approach, focusing on the whole person—not just symptoms. I support clients in building coping, emotional regulation, communication, and problem-solving skills. I also work with intellectual and developmental disabilities, grief, illness, and dementia, tailoring care to each person.
Taking the first step toward therapy can feel intimidating, especially when you are already carrying so much. You deserve a space where you feel heard, understood, and accepted just as you are. You do not have to have everything figured out before reaching out. When you are ready, I would be honored to walk alongside you as you become rooted in hope and grow.
